Comment Insight Fields for Jira
Show the latest comment, who wrote it, when, and how many comments a work item has, as fields you can add to the list view and search with JQL.
The four fields

The fields are read-only. They update within a few seconds after a comment is added, edited or deleted. The app does not use your Jira Automation execution limits.
Public comments only. Comments restricted to a role or group, and internal notes in Jira Service Management, are never copied into the fields and are not counted. This keeps restricted text from appearing to people who cannot see the comment itself.
Getting started
1. Install
Install the app from the Atlassian Marketplace. A Jira admin needs to approve the install.
2. Fill the fields for existing work items
- Go to Settings (⚙) > Apps and open Comment Insight Fields in the left menu.
- Select Sync existing work items. The page shows progress. Large sites can take several minutes; you can close the page.
You only need to do this once. New comments update the fields automatically.
3. Show the fields
Company-managed spaces: the fields are ready to use. In the list view, open the column picker and add the fields you want. They also work in filters, dashboards and JQL right away.
Team-managed spaces need one extra step for each work type:
- Open the space, then Space settings > Work types, and choose a work type (for example Task).
- From the fields panel on the right, drag Last comment, Last commenter, Last comment date and Comment count into the context fields.
- Select Save changes. Repeat for each work type you use.
Even before this step, the values are saved and you can already find work items with JQL.

Frequently asked questions
The fields are empty on old work items.
Run the sync once (Getting started, step 2). Work items with no public comments keep the fields empty and Comment count at 0.
Comment count is lower than the number of comments I see.
Restricted comments and internal notes are not counted. Everyone who can see the work item sees the same number.
I can't see the fields in a team-managed space.
Add them to each work type (Getting started, step 3).
Can I edit the fields?
No. They are read-only and always follow the comments.
Does any data leave Jira?
No. The app runs only on Atlassian's platform and sends no data to outside servers. See the privacy policy.
What happens if the subscription ends?
The fields stop updating. Values already saved stay on the work items. You can uninstall the app at any time.
